Copake Iron Works Historic Site

One of the most intact examples of 19th century industrial iron-making in the northeast, and home to many buildings and structures including the centerpiece Copake Falls Blast Furnace and its water jacket hearth. A three-mile loop trail circumnavigating the Copake Iron Works Historic District  and has extensive interpretive signs for independent exploration.

NEW ~ June 2023 ~ We welcome the first and only full-scale railroad: The Pomeroy Family Railroad. This train is a throwback to the railroad used in the 1800’s, during the Industrial Revolution. The train will run on a 950-foot loop. The engine pulls two retro-fitted ore carts to carry passengers. It replicates the narrow-gauge railroad that transported iron ore from the nearby mine to the blast furnace at the Copake Iron Works.  The train will be available for FREE rides on Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm-4pm, Memorial Day weekend-mid-October.
