One of the most intact examples of 19th century industrial iron-making in the northeast, featuring the centerpiece Blast Furnace, a visitor museum, and many other original buildings and structures. In 2023, the Pomeroy Family Railroad began running at the Copake Iron Works Historic site. The train and its route replicate the narrow gauge railroad that circumnavigated the site in the 19th century during the ironworks’ operating heyday. The train’s engine pulls two ore carts that have been retrofitted to carry passengers of all ages and abilities. The Pomeroy Family Railroad runs Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from Memorial Day to mid-October. Rides are free and no reservations are required.
