The new exhibition by Roberto Juarez
Join us for a special conversation between Roberto Juarez and Edward J. Sullivan, Professor of History of Art, NYU Institute of Fine Arts.
Roberto Juarez is a visual artist active in the areas of painting, printmaking, drawing and large scale public commissions throughout his career. Born in Chicago of Puerto Rican and Mexican parents, he received artistic training at the San Francisco Art Institute followed by film studies at UCLA. He has had numerous solo and group shows at museums and galleries in the United States, Latin America, Europe and China. Awards and recognition include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome, being an Academician at the National Academy of Design and a Civitella Raineri Residency.
He has lived and worked in Columbia County, NY for more than 20 years.
Edward J. Sullivan is the Helen Gould Sheppard Professor of the History of Art at New York University . His field of expertise extends to the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. He has also written extensively on Latinx artists working in the United States. He has authored over thirty books, exhibition catalogues, and articles on the subjects. Throughout his career Sullivan has served as guest curator for museum exhibitions on three continents. He has known Roberto Juarez and has admired his work for many years.
